We tend to admire busy people. A full calendar can feel like proof that our life matters. Yet many who study productivity now argue the opposite: that our endless busyness is quietly working against us.
The problem is that attention is limited. When we chase many goals at once, we spread our energy thin, and each task receives only a fraction of our focus. Progress slows, mistakes grow, and we end the day exhausted but strangely unsatisfied.
